The Golden Gems – Krishna Venta, (Lecture, 1/9/1949)
I have a fervent prayer in my heart tonight that this will be the beginning of a splendid group, that we will continue to
expand in the San Fernando Valley. My intention is not to give a series of lectures and charge a price for it. So many
times speakers give one or two free lectures, and then demand a price for a course. This is not a course. This is a
work which must be done for the Father. I am assured that with your cooperative help and love we can accomplish
every aim now set forth. Love seems to be a thing which has been abused. I think of the many times man has said
he loves, yet I wonder if he truly does love. Consider the two Commandments given by Christ in the New Testament.
When asked what were the most important laws to live, Christ said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy mind,
with all thy heart, and with all thy soul; and the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” It is
because we have forgotten the second part of that—perhaps never even knew the first part—that has caused the
chaos we have in the world today. If we loved God, and sincerely loved one another, I think you will agree we wouldn’t
have war, and we wouldn’t have the personal and political hates we have in the world today. The most important thing
we should begin studying here is love; that we might come to know and learn to love one another; that we can work
together for the same cause. If we few can unite in love, just think how quickly we can expand to include the world. We
have abused the true concept concerning the love of God. He placed a spark of love within each one of us—a love that
we should hold one for the other. Yet, we have broken that love down to a very basic point. We think of our family or
our dearly beloved, and we love them above everyone else in the world. We feel it is a duty that we should so love
them. Yes, it is a duty, but I have seen brothers and sisters who in their infancy were loved by a mother and father.
As they grew older, because they thought differently, there was dissension between the family.
The daughter went her way, the son went his, and that love died in the family. This has occurred so many times. It is
because the mother and father didn’t understand love in their own hearts, thus they were unable to pass it on to their
children. If they had understood love, the children would never have known hate. Since we have separated ourselves
from our fellow men and considered only our families, now is the time for us to consider a greater love, one which
deals with the human race—be they black or white, for God is the Creator of both. When we come to love one another,
we will have fulfilled a law that was given many centuries past. To you who are hearing me for the first time, I will say
that I have recently become a Valley resident. At present, I live at 4717 Longridge Avenue, in Sherman Oaks. We
have purchased five acres of land in Northridge, just out of Reseda. We are now preparing to build on the land for
the good of everyone. Everyone who works with me shall share in it. I will prove to the world that we can—as a
human race, even from different families—work together in love and beauty. I am not a graduate from a seminary.
I might as well make that point clear to you now. I have never attended any seminary. I belong to no organization,
cult, or creed. I belong to none of the organized church groups, nor any of the philosophical societies organized
today. However, although I do not belong to any organizations, neither do I fight them. I know, and we must all
come to know, that every church in this world, regardless of the name it might carry, is striving to the ultimate
of its knowledge to expound a wisdom of God. They are all right. When we put one church above the other, it
is merely because we are members of that church. Yet, I wonder if we were members of another church, if we
wouldn’t do the same thing. Let’s realize that all churches are for the good of all people, and that one church
will elevate one brother in his quest of truth, whereas another church couldn’t reach him.
The church you are a member of reaches you, but there are thousands it couldn’t influence. Therefore, it is good that
we have different denominations. There is no need of fighting one another. We have more need of banding together
every church there is, which presents the teachings of God. It is our duty in this hour to unite and work together, not
as a divided church wherein we deal with politics along with the word of God. We should yield only to that which the
church is founded upon. Therefore, that church should be sanctified for the work of God. We as individuals should give
our support to the church when it is upholding the laws of God, but when it begins to infringe on politics and other
different worldly problems, it ceases to be a church of God. My work is with every denomination. My desire is to work
with all, and I hope and pray to the Father that they will work with me. If it is a true church, and personality doesn’t
influence it, I know we can work together, but so long as man depends upon personality worship, we can’t live together.
It is impossible, because personality deals with personal feelings and vanity. If a man believes a certain way, he strives
to expound that teaching and force another person to believe in it. So, there are two things you must bear in mind as
you work with me. First, we must get away from personality worship, because personality only represents the five
senses. You don’t know what is buried deep in my heart; you don’t know the inner part of me—and that is what I really
am! Outside, I am subject to changes, depending on who I meet, my social status, and my belief. Thus, if I were with
a refined class of people, I would assume that air of refinement; if with the working class, I would adapt myself to that
group. Regardless of where I was, I would adapt myself to them outwardly. Inwardly, I might be repulsed by it. So long as
you judge by the outward appearance, you will never know the person inside. Therefore, let’s strive to know the Divine
Force which flows within. I do not look upon you as personalities or bodies. I don’t care what your body looks like. It is
merely a house in which you are living. When life departs from that body, the YOU, which is the life, will refuse to stay
with the body. You will go on. The body goes to the grave. Therefore, if I judged the body, I would lose track of you.
So, I am not interested in the body. I love you for what you are. It makes no difference who you are. I will not ask what
you represent or who you are. I am not interested in what you have been, or your personal belief. I am interested in you
—the real you which lives inside, the real you which is a part of the great flow of God, and striving ever so hard to find
the truth of God, that might set you free. You are what I am interested in, and I hope you will be interested in me in like
manner. I look upon the human race daily. I see so many desiring in youth to be servants of God. They are members
of a chosen denomination. It makes no difference which one. Mother and father want them to be good spiritual leaders.
Because mother and father are a member of that church, they want their child to be a member, hoping and praying
the child will be a minister of the truth. They send that child to a seminary. The child is taught the fundamentals of that
denomination—how to teach those laws, and those laws only. In fact, when he graduates from the seminary, he knows
his own teaching to perfection, but has little appreciation for anyone else’s belief. So long as you believe as he does,
fine, but don’t believe differently, for then he has no consideration for you. That is what a seminary does. It isn’t really
the best thing. No one can make a minister out of someone who doesn’t have it in him. If he does have that inner urge,
he need not go to a seminary. He can receive it direct from the Father, for if the Father wants that boy or girl to be a
missionary for Him, the Father will place the wisdom in that mind, and that child will speak it. Therefore, I am not a
graduate from a seminary. I am not a graduate from any of your grammar schools, high schools, or universities.
Those who have received training in school would classify me as an illiterate. On the contrary, I am far from that.
Those who have heard me cannot say that I am illiterate, that I do not know what I am talking about. It matters not
what faith you follow, I can talk to you on your own faith, because I understand it. Regardless of what profession
you might be in, I can talk to you on your profession. I can hold a good, interesting conversation with you
concerning your own profession.
Yet, man didn’t give it to me. I didn’t obtain it from books. Where, then, did I get it, save from the Father direct? Because
I love the Father, I love you. Because I love you, I desire to bring love to you, so you can learn to love one another. I
think the key of my work is to break down personal, political, racial, and religious prejudices, to dispose of malice,
prejudice, hate, envy, and jealousy within you. There is no room for that, children. In this world there is only room for
one thing—the positive, creative, and constructive laws, that we might lift ourselves out of the chaos the world is in
and elevate ourselves to the world of immortality. Each of you received, as you came in, a sheet of “Golden Gems
for Each Day of the Month.” I would like to have you study this each day of the month, taking one of the golden gems
and living it. At the end of thirty days, you will be much richer spiritually than you are now. The first day: BE POSITIVE,
CREATIVE AND CONSTRUCTIVE IN ALL YOUR THOUGHTS, YOUR WORDS AND YOUR ACTIONS. Can we be
positive? Have you tried it? Isn’t it easy for the negative to come in? The day may be beautiful; upon rising in the early
morn, you will be very happy and contented. Before an hour has passed, someone has said something, or some
condition has arisen which causes the positiveness of our being to turn to prejudice or dislike. Certainly we do not
know our God when we allow that to happen. The second day: THINK ONLY IN THE HIGHER PLANES OF LOVE,
AND LOVE WILL COME BACK TO YOU. For, what a man thinketh, so is he. What you send out every day will return
to you, because every thought you send out is of your own making—whether good or bad. If those thoughts are bad,
they need not be expressed in words. You can think them, and telepathically they are carried to your friends. They
don’t know the reason, but they feel upset and confused—all because of your thoughts. That is why when you contact
some of your dear friends, one day you feel happy and friendly with them, and everything runs smoothly. The next
day you meet them, they maybe upset. They smile outwardly, they appear the same, but you are ill at ease and
wonder why. It is because they are entertaining negative thoughts, which upset you, and you immediately
respond to them. That is life.
The third day: SOW NO WEEDS OF UNKINDNESS, EITHER IN THOUGHT OR ACTION, AND YOUR GARDEN
WILL BLOSSOM FORTH WITH LOVE. The fourth day: THINK GOOD OF EVERYONE, AND THE MIND WILL BE
KEPT CLEAN. The fifth day: KNOW THAT YOU ARE THE BUD IN GOD’S TREE OF LIFE, STRIVING TO UNFOLD.
The sixth day: NO ONE IS TO BLAME FOR THE THINGS THAT COME UPON ME; THEY ARE ALL OF MY OWN
MAKING. You might hold that thought all day, and then something may arise which will cause you to say, “Why did
this condition come to me? I am not to blame for that. Such and such is the instigator and is to blame.” No, I am to
blame, for if I knew and had the understanding of the law, whatever anyone else said about me wouldn’t upset me.
I should not accept those inner feelings, and I would then be in the right. An accident may occur to you, and you blame
the other person. It is human nature to blame someone for everything—no matter how trivial or great. If you don’t
have some human to lay the blame on, you will blame it on the wind, snow, or some act of nature—never yourself.
When the hour and the day arrives that I can blame myself for all things that come upon me, in that hour I have
gained wisdom. In gaining that wisdom, I rise in understanding. The seventh day: I SHALL NOT CONDEMN ANYONE;
THEREFORE, I NEED NOT ASK FORGIVENESS. If you don’t condemn or speak ill of anyone, you will have no need
to go back and ask for forgiveness. But, if you speak ill of someone, and later you feel ashamed of yourself, you are
justified in asking forgiveness. The eighth day: I SHALL ACCEPT MY LOT THIS DAY, KNOWING IT IS MEANT FOR
MY GOOD. I SHALL REAP AN UNDERSTANDING FROM IT, SO THAT I MAY PROGRESS MORE RAPIDLY. The
ninth day: BE NOT FANATICAL; KEEP AN OPEN MIND, AND WISDOM WILL COME YOUR WAY. This is another
weakness of the human race—fanaticism.
We like to believe otherwise, but we cannot get away from the concept personally we believe to be right. Since we
believe it to be right, we are so set in that idea that no matter what other explanation is offered, we would not change
our point of view. We automatically become fanatics, cut and dried. We don’t like to think so, but we are. Why? I may
come to a friend who needs help, but if I am so set in my way I cannot understand him. I will propound my theory to
him against me. He is not happy, and you have not accomplished anything other than to cause him to say, “That person
is a fanatic. You can’t reason with him.” I have found that when a person needs help, if you can humble yourself and
extend words of love, you will become more successful in helping that person than by trying to cram your teaching
or belief down his throat. That is why I advertise and let individuals come to me. When they come, they are seeking
wisdom. Since they are seeking, I am free to give them the wisdom ordained to me by God, and they are free to
walk away if they so desire. But, suppose I came to your home, knocked on the door and asked, “Are you a church
member?” “Yes.” “What denomination are you?” After your reply, I say, “Have you studied such and such?” “No.” “Well,
you should.” Then I begin finding fault with your faith and begin discussing my own. I would be a fanatic, regardless of
what denomination I represented. In the foreign mission field, instead of giving the true, sincere love of God, missionaries
are trying to preach their denominational beliefs to the natives of countries to which they are sent. That is wrong. You
should not be preaching a denomination, but God, and you must cleave to that, if you are a true messenger. Strive to
be open minded, and you will not become a fanatic. There are other types of fanatics. For example, individuals who are
well versed in one field have no appreciation for someone else’s work. A doctor, we will say, would not be interested in
engineering. As long as someone will talk medicine with him, fine, but talk on another subject, and he is bored. Isn’t that
a form of fanaticism—not being interested in the other person at all?
Nineteen hundred years ago when the Son of God came before the people, I wonder if he showed partiality. When he
was talking to a member of a certain profession, would He say, “I don’t understand, and I am not interested,” or rather
would He not become a part with every individual, great or small, ignorant or learned, saints or sinners? We must get
away from fanaticism. The tenth day: IN NATURE, ONE FINDS THE ANSWER TO THE INFINITE. TAKE THE TIME
TO STUDY IT WELL. I am thinking of the growing trees up in the mountains where nature reigns sublime. To an artist,
those trees make a beautiful setting for his artistry. To a craftsman, they are something to cut down. To a person who
needs firewood, they produce a glowing flame of warmth. All are ready to destroy these trees. Men do not recognize
nature as the Bible it speaks of the tree, the great Tree of Good and Evil, the Tree of Life. The whole human race came
from that first tree of life, which we know as Adam. If any one of us traced our ancestors back far enough, we would
find everyone related to Adam. This being so, we are related to one another. As we are related to one another, we are
one family, and being one family, we should love one another. When I look at a tree, I recognize in it our family tree,
with all its many branchlets, coming forth from the main branches, and the leaves of that great tree. We come, go, and
come again. Nature tells me the story of God, and I learn to love God and appreciate the tree. So, in the laws of nature
is the answer to the infinite. The eleventh day: YOU ARE A TWO-FOLD BEING, ONE MATERIAL, AND THE OTHER
SPIRITUAL. WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH TO SERVE? FOR, IN SERVING TWO MASTERS, YOUR HOUSE BECOMES
DIVIDED. Everyone is a two-fold being; in fact, I would say you are a two-fold being subdivided into many personalities.
That is, you have a dual personality within you, a triple personality, or even quadruple. One part of you is the material; the
other, the spiritual. Which do you wish to serve? For, in serving two masters, your house becomes divided. If you strive to
please the body, you disobey the spiritual laws; if you strive to obey the spiritual laws, you disobey the material. If I am
wrapped up in my material wants or needs of the day, I think very little of God or the great universal laws of spirituality.
Yet, when I devote my time in gaining the spiritual knowledge, I am thinking very little of the material. You can’t serve
both at the same time. Since I know I am life, and a part of the great God-force, and that life is everlasting, that I cannot
get away from life, I would much rather spend my time thinking on a spiritual level, that I might elevate myself unto a
greater and deeper understanding concerning the great Master that created this universe. I cannot see Him with these
eyes, nor hear Him with my ears, nor feel Him with my hands, nor can I taste or touch Him. But, all I need to do is scan
the heavens at night wherein the stars have their abode or recognize Old Sol as he shines down on us daily—then I
know the greater powers of God. That is all I need do, to know that there is an Intelligence, far greater than we foolish
mortals, which controls this great universe. I would like to know the origin of a star—not the scientific, but the true origin
beyond what science knows. I would like to know what keeps this earth rotating on its axis in perfect order, and what
produced the sun. Yet, I don’t know, because I am a mortal. Those are the questions you ask. You would like to know
those things, but you can’t understand the answer because you think in mortal terms. If you are desiring to gain the
knowledge of these things, is it not true you must elevate your intelligence to the point where you can receive from the
greater Intelligence the laws governing these things? Then, some day when you gain the knowledge, you become the
controlling factor over it. If you have no assurance now because of your inability to conceive, then would it not be better
to obey the spiritual laws of that great Intelligence controlling this? How do I know, perhaps when my understanding has
risen to a point where it can encompass all the stars, I will probably find yet greater things in the heavens? Yes, greater
glories of God’s creation! The twelfth day: IDLE WORDS LEAD TO GOSSIP. TAKE NO PART IN THIS FOOLISHNESS.
In other words, what does it profit me when I am visiting my neighbor to waste my time gossiping about my friends?
What have I gained? Do you know what the final judgment is? The one you call your friend may in a few days visit
the very persons you were condemning. Your friend will gossip about everyone else, including you.
Soon you have a dozen people down on you because you gossiped about them. Keep your mouth shut if you can’t
say anything good. If I have something good to say, I can spread it to the world, and the world will love me, but let’s
not go into idle gossip, even though it be true. When you come in contact with someone who has made a mistake,
or has done something you didn’t like, which would be the most honored—the individual who went to him direct and
tried to help him out of his dilemma through love and kindness? If you don’t know which is the better, when you confront
such a problem, just say to yourself, “What would Christ do?” You have your answer. Would Christ go out and gossip,
or would He go direct to the individual to help him? If you believe in Christ and God, then obey and fulfill the same
laws Christ would. Do as Christ would do; then you know how to live, you would know how to love, and you have
found happiness. The thirteenth day: SORROW IS LIKE A CLOUDY DAY—A SPELL OF DARKNESS, THEN COMES
THE LIGHT. Did you ever encounter such sorrow? When things are disparaging, the day is like a heavy cloud hanging
over you. It stays for a spell, then tomorrow you have forgotten the past. The light is there again. When heavy confusion,
trouble and tribulation comes upon us, let us stop for the moment and say, “This isn’t going to last forever, it is a cloud
hanging over me now. There is no need to despair. I know that tomorrow the sun will shine.” With such an attitude,
how quickly that darkness would dissolve itself, but if you keep moping and complaining about it, you just make that
cloud inside you darker. Where, then, is your happiness? The fourteenth day: KEEP YOUR THOUGHTS IN A STATE
OF GREENNESS, AND THEY’LL CONTINUE TO GROW; LET THEM RIPEN, AND THEY BEGIN TO ROT. An old
scholar said, “You are all green—just as green as a green olive.” Most people took offense to what he said. “Let me
explain,” he said, “Did you ever see a green thing that wasn’t growing? Did you ever see anything growing that
wasn’t green? When it gets ripe, it stops growing, it ceases to be green, and is ready to rot.” So, in the philosophical
sense, let’s keep our own thoughts green. Thus, our desire of knowledge will continue to grow, and will never ripen,
and we will never get so brazen within ourselves as to say,
“Oh, I know it all.” Let’s try to remain green, for as long as we are green, we will grow. When we are ripe, we are ready to
rot. The fifteenth day: A TRUE SMILE WILL ENLIGHTEN MANY DESPAIRING HEARTS. Have you noticed that when
someone is sad or unhappy, just a pleasant smile from you will cause him to smile again? Try it some time. As you walk
down the street, you see many people who appear sad. You don’t know what is in their hearts, but you know something is
wrong. Give them a pleasant smile as you pass. Watch the change in them. They will straighten up; their steps will become
more brisk, and happiness returns, just because of one smile you passed their way. But, if you return their sour look, you
just pull them down deeper into their sadness. Sometimes a smile will work wonders. Try it. I wish you knew me. I know
very well you would say, “I never saw anyone who had more love than he.” As you see me here tonight, that is the way
I am all the time. I am just me. Everyone who has been near me knows that I understand them. With all their trials and
tribulations, I don’t condemn them. I understand them and know they need help. I think how easily I could have been them,
then I know how much I would need help from someone else. This becomes the true radiation of love. The sixteenth day:
YOUR HOUSE IS ONLY AS BIG AS YOUR THOUGHTS. LET YOUR THOUGHTS BE MANY; BUT ABOVE ALL, LET
THEM BE GOOD. The seventeenth day: YOUR MIND IS A CLOSET WHEREIN ALL THINGS ARE STORED; KEEP
IT CLEAN AND IN PERFECT ORDER. Yes, your mind is a closet. The most perfect illustration of the mind is to go into
someone’s home and open the closet doors. If I find everything in order, nothing out of place, that is the way I find the
home. Go home and open the drawers in your house and find out if that same is true, or if your house is in confusion.
Perhaps you will say, “Oh dear, where did I put that? I just can’t remember.” You can’t find it. You look about and
eventually find it. “Oh, yes, I put it over there.” That is about the same way our mind is. You try to remember something
which happened yesterday. “Oh, dear, I can’t remember!” You try to figure out this and that, and can’t get the answer.
Your mind is like a closet. Do some inner housecleaning. Get rid of your negative thoughts. Be sure you have positive
thoughts at your disposal; so that any time you demand a positive thought to combat a negative one, you know right
where to summon it. It will come to you instantly, and you will not live a life of negativity. When someone speaks ill of
you, say, “Good, maybe he is right. It doesn’t bother me.” You won’t talk against him. You will always speak a good
word in return. Soon he will stop talking about you. No one likes to talk about someone he can’t get something on.
People like to spend their time talking about others, provided that which they have to speak on is gossip, for instance.
“She is bad—a little birdie told me”—that type of thing. You don’t hear of social gatherings spending a couple of hours in
conversation about the good of everyone. I would like to start a group talking about the good in people. Always remember,
“As good as you are, and as bad as I am, I am as good as you are, as bad as I am.” True. The eighteenth day: THE
MORTAL BODY IS A TEMPLE WHEREIN YOU ABIDE; TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT AND LET NOT THE POISONS
GATHER. Yes, this physical body you live in is your house. Most people have not developed even their five basic
senses. They put too hot or too cold food in their mouths, because they like it that way. They don’t care what this is
doing to the physical body. They don’t care until sickness comes upon them, then they run to a doctor to be healed.
They will spend endless time trying to improve the situation then. Men spend much time trying to improve the outward
appearance of the body. They groom themselves, use face lotion, keep their hair cut neatly, but very little time do they
spend on the inner man. The ladies are no exception. They get permanent waves—that is all right. They use “powder
and paint, which makes them seem what they ain’t.” Everyone admires, saying “Oh, how beautiful you look!” Yet, inside
of them they may be black as coal. Perhaps the physical body is half deteriorated beneath the cosmetics, but they try to
maintain the outward appearance. However, it is a little different with the houses made from wood and stone. People
seem to take care of the inside more than the outside. The house is kept clean and dusted; the furnishings are well
cared for. They like their house to be neat inside, though they might even let the outside get a little run-down.
Isn’t that a lesson to us? If we take care of the inside of the material house in which the body lives, why should we
not take better care of the physical house in which the real intelligence, the real YOU, lives? If we do, we won’t
need a doctor, for we won’t get sick. The body is a temple for your inner being. As long as you can control the
body, it is yours to work through, but the minute poisons gather in it, you can’t think clearly, the body breaks down,
and you are old at forty. There is no reason why we should age. There is no reason why this physical body should
deteriorate, except that we haven’t taken care of it because of our ignorance. I will not tell you how old this body
is in which I am, but I will say—this same physical body is far older than the oldest person in this room, and when
every person here has given up the house he is now living in, I will still be in this one. That is all I wish to express
tonight. It isn’t a phenomenon, neither will I teach you phenomenon. It is controlled by natural laws, and when you
learn these natural laws, you, too, can live the same. The nineteenth day: DO NOT BECOME THE AGGRESSOR
OVER THE OPPRESSED. REMEMBER THE TIMES WHEN YOU WERE OPPRESSED, AND THINK ONLY OF
OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM THINK OF YOU. Maybe yesterday you were down and out, but today
you are successfully above the others. This change of fortune should not cause you to push their heads farther
down. You should not become the aggressor, just because you have been given an ounce of authority. Brothers
and sisters, we all have some authority, but should we use it to down someone else, or make him smaller? No,
for he is then the oppressed. Yesterday you were the oppressed, and through the kind grace of God, someone
came along and instead of stepping on you, helped you up to where they are today. Should you not come down
off your high horse to help that less fortunate brother? How do you know but what tomorrow you might again be
the oppressed? You never know; there is no real security in this world—in a material sense. You don’t know when
a condition might occur which will take your home and everything you have from you. You never know what is
going to happen. So, while you are up today, help your fellowman, and you will live more in accordance with
the laws of Christ. Love ye one another. The twentieth day: YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK; SO KEEP YOUR
THOUGHTS IN CONSTANT REPAIR.
I have already explained that. If you think good, that is what you are; if you think bad, that is what you are; if you think
hate, that is what you are. How could you think hate toward someone unless hate were in you first? If there were no
hate in your thoughts, how could you develop hate toward someone else? That is simple psychology. It is good for you
to learn these things. You know those words are wonderful, but what good is wisdom if you have no intention of living it.
Now is the time that we should stop listening and begin doing—begin living the laws! I will help you; I will work with you,
and I won’t ask you to do something I won’t do myself. Therefore, if I can’t do it myself, I won’t ask you to do it. “What I
do, ye can do also, and even greater things than I do now shall ye do.” The twenty-first day: YOUR HARVEST COMES
FROM WHAT YOU HAVE PLANTED; IF NOT IN THIS LIFE, THEN ‘TWILL SURELY BE THE NEXT. PLANT A GOOD
CROP, AND YOUR HARVEST WILL BE GREAT. BY THUS DOING, YOU REAP THE REWARD OF HEAVEN. One time
when I was in meditation, these words came to me, “harvesting of golden grain,” and I wondered what was meant. Golden
grain! I thought to myself, “What good have I done for my fellowmen? Have I planted good seeds along the way this year?”
No, I haven’t planted too many good seeds; I could have done better. I realized that “harvesting of golden grains” was
nothing more than the harvesting which comes from all those good things I have done. So, if I have been destructive
all year, I am planting seeds of destruction; at the end of the year when my time of reaping comes, I have a harvest of
destruction. Everything goes wrong—everything I touch, or say, or do turns out wrong! I wonder why. Because I did not
plant good thoughts! I planted bad thoughts, so I had to harvest them. The twenty-second day: DO NOT THINK OF
WINTER WHEN THE SPRING IS HERE, FOR IF YOU DO, THE COLD WINDS OF DESOLATION WILL HAMPER
YOUR GROWTH. Spring represents the awakening of everything. All plant life awakens in the early spring.
Therefore, isn’t this the time of an awakening, the hour that you are awakening in your spiritual knowledge? You are now
beginning to grow in your wisdom. Now that you have received the first seed of growth, your spring is here. Perhaps as
you express to others some of the things I have spoken and you receive rebuttal, are you going to allow that to turn your
thoughts again to winter? You know when winter comes, there is a freezing, and nothing grows. Always keep the spring
with you, and let your seeds grow. If you happen to repeat something I have spoken to you, and the other person begins
to talk ill of it, say “Thank you. Perhaps you are right. I shall find out for myself.” Much greater will be your love at the end
of the year. The twenty-third day: FEED THIS PART OF GOD’S UNIVERSE WITH YOUR LOVE, AND IT SHALL BE
RETURNED TO YOU A THOUSANDFOLD IN STRENGTH. Let’s look at this in a simple way. You may be a teacher to
twenty neighborhood children. You love them, therefore, you give them words of love and they love you in return. As
they face the world to choose their mates and marry, they still have that same love for you which they had before. To
them you remain kind and wonderful. In a few years, each one of those twenty grown-ups have two or three children
of their own. Those children also love you, because mother or father has taught them how kind you are. Just imagine,
in three generations of their children, and their children’s children growing up, what a large circle of fine friends you will
have, all by planting love in twenty minds. Now reverse the procedure and plant hate in twenty little minds, and see how
many enemies you will have by the third generation. It works both ways. If I can extend love, appreciation and respect
to everyone, by knowing I am in God’s vineyard of mortality and it is my work to rise above mortality, and that I can only
do so by love, I will plant seeds of love not because it is a duty, but because in my heart I feel love. You do not rise by
doing things through duty. The twenty-fourth day: THINK GOOD, AND YOU WILL MANIFEST GOOD. DO GOOD, AND
YOU SHALL GROW IN YOUR WISDOM, AND IN YOUR WISDOM YOU SHALL COME TO KNOW GOD.
How can we know the great Universal Intelligence unless we have the wisdom? Wise old Solomon said, “Get ye
wisdom, and in all your getting, get ye understanding.” Therefore, understanding is the most important thing—
understanding of all things. How could I help my brother or anyone else if I didn’t understand his situation? I
would be a menace. Through understanding, I can talk with him on his terms; I can work with him and help him.
Ye, too, get understanding! The twenty-fifth day: BE HUMBLE, AND YOU MAGNIFY GOD. DO NOT GLOAT IN
YOUR STRENGTH, FOR TO DO SO IS TO LOSE THE TOUCH OF GOD. No matter how great my teachings,
or how wealthy you are, if you can be humble and not feel your greatness, if you can do anything for others,
no matter how lowly the task, that humility indicates your strength. It reveals to others the true love which flows
through you. Yes, I am a teacher, but I would much rather be serving you instead of teaching. I would prefer to
be serving you, knowing that no matter what is asked of me, I would not consider it too great a sacrifice. Then
I have humbled myself. Those with wealth, power, pomp and glory, and the teachers of philosophy who place
themselves upon pedestals, thinking they are better than their fellowmen, should begin taking a lesson from
the simplicity of the Christ nineteen hundred years ago. They should come down off their high horses and be
one with the people. May God ever give me strength that I shall always be one with my people, never elevating
myself above them, but being humble, simple and plain, one with others. In that way I am love. The twenty-sixth
day: BRUSH ASIDE THE EMBERS OF HOT WORDS, AND LET THEM DIE. THEY ARE NOT FOR YOU TO
FEED. Cast your angry words aside. If hot words come your way, all you need do is say a few angry words
and you feed that fire. Before long, a heated argument develops. The twenty-seventh day: DO NOT FORCE
OTHERS TO DRINK FROM YOUR CUP OF WISDOM, UNLESS THEY ASK FOR IT.
If someone asks you concerning a certain problem, it is your duty to give him your wisdom, but you have no right
shouting it from the house-tops, or going to an individual’s home and trying to pound your teachings into his brain.
The twenty-eighth day: TODAY IS THE ONLY DAY LEFT IN WHICH TO RECOGNIZE PERFECTION, BECAUSE
YESTERDAY IS GONE, AND TOMORROW NEVER COMES. What happened yesterday is gone; you passed
through that. The important moment is now. You are living now, so today is the only important time of your life. If
you live each day as if it were the last day in the history of your being, you would be prepared for the inevitable.
If you continue living in the past and having your ideals in the future, you are not taking care of now. If a lady gets
a snag in her hose and is so busy thinking of other things she doesn’t have time to fix it, before long she has a
runner and has to buy a new pair. The important thing was, when the snag occurred, to have protected it then.
Take care of things when they happen, and you will never have to worry about the future. The twenty-ninth day:
THINK NO HARM, AND YOU’LL NEVER FEAR IT. The thirtieth day: WORRY IS A BINDING SEED; IF ALLOWED
TO GROW, IT WILL CRUSH OUT ALL YOUR GOOD THOUGHTS. The thirty-first day: SCATTER SEEDS
OF KINDNESS ALL ALONG THE WAY. There is a world of philosophy in just those little simple sayings. Let’s
study them well, and begin living them. Closing Prayer by “The Voice” O Great Supreme Infinite Intelligence,
Master and Creator of This Entire Universe: Look upon Thy children gathered here. Guide and protect them in
their quest of truth. Lead them in the way they should be led in solving their daily problems, that they might
not stumble throughout the day. Guide them in their health, in their life and happiness. Until we meet soon,
I ask it in Thy name, Amen, Amen.
